EU Ecolabel

Introduced by the European Commission in 1992, the EU Ecolabel is based on Regulation (EC) No. 66/2010 of the European Parliament and the European Council. From the outset, the European Commission has recognised RAL and the Federal Environment Agency as the competent bodies for Germany.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the EU Ecolabel, we travelled through ten European countries and twelve cities in Germany with our e-bike roadshow. This enabled us to demonstrably increase awareness among consumers.

Actors EU Ecolabel

The European Commission is the owner of the EU Ecolabel. The highest authority is the European Union Ecolabelling Board (EUEB). For Germany, the Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt ,UBA) and RAL gGmbH have been designated by the BMUV as the competent bodies for the European Commission.

EU Ecolabel award for ver.di hotels

Ver.di represents the interests of many employees and operates sustainable educational institutions. On the occasion of the award with EU Ecolabel, the certificates were presented at the Ver.di Education Centre in Wannsee.

A look behind the scenes of the EU Ecolabel – What and who is behind the EU Ecolabel?

We took a look behind the scenes of the EU Ecolabel and explain how RAL, the Federal Environment Agency, the Federal Ministry for the Environment (Bundesumweltministerium, BMUKN) and the EU Commission are working together to set an example for greater environmental protection. In Berlin, we spoke with EU Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius about the European Commission's environmental label and were there to witness a certificate presentation first-hand.
