Trade cooperations

The expansion of strategic sustainability communication in cooperation with food retailers, drugstores and DIY stores promotes sustainable consumption through local campaigns and traditional and digital communication. This approach simultaneously strengthens the company’s image and fosters customer loyalty.
In today’s jungle of labels, seals and symbols, the Blue Angel provides reliable guidance for sustainable shopping. It stands for independent, transparent and ambitious labelling. The Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUKN) and the Federal Environment Agency guarantee that the strict criteria for the Blue Angel are scientifically developed and that the environmental label is only awarded after careful examination.

Paper sample books

The paper sample books provide a comprehensive overview of Blue Angel-certified office and printing paper in Germany, and are intended to aid decision-making for recycled paper and printed products. Compared to paper made from virgin fibres, recycled paper saves 78 per cent of water, 68 per cent of energy, and 15 per cent of CO₂ emissions during production. Furthermore, Blue Angel-certified recycled paper promotes sustainable recycling management and helps to preserve our planet’s biodiversity. Recycled paper with the Blue Angel label reduces the ecological footprint and sends a clear signal for the environment and sustainability.

E-Commerce

Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important in e-commerce. The Blue Angel e-commerce interface offers online retailers and marketplaces data services for Blue Angel-certified products, enabling them to integrate these products into their own shops and product information systems (PIMs). Individual search filters and detailed information about the products and services are transferred to the web shops to make the environmentally friendly Blue Angel products quick and easy to find online.

Who is behind it?

  • Owner: Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUKN)
As the owner of the label, the BMUKN sets the principles for awarding it and appoints the members of the Environmental Label Jury.
  • Technical expertise: The Federal Environment Agency
The experts at the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) develop the criteria that products or services must meet in order to be certified with the Blue Angel and regularly review these criteria to ensure they are up to date.
  • Independent decision-makers: Environmental Label Jury
The Environmental Label Jury decides on new product groups and approves them. It is independent, impartial and voluntary.
  • Awarding body: RAL gGmbH
RAL gGmbH works closely with the other institutions. As an independent organisation, it checks compliance with the criteria and concludes contracts with companies for use of the label.
