Consuming products and services puts a strain on our planet. Environmental labels show consumers how they can protect the environment while shopping. The RAL ENVIRONMENT business area has been awarding the Blue Angel environmental label since 1978 and the EU Ecolabel since 1992.

What RAL ENVIRONMENT stands for

An increasing number of people are trying to avoid environmentally harmful products and services, actively seeking high-quality, eco-friendly alternatives. However, with so many products and services available, it can be hard to tell which ones meet environmental standards. The multitude of different logos and labels also causes uncertainty.

RAL ENVIRONMENT as an expert in environmental labelling

In order to make the right decision, consumers need reliable and neutral information they can trust above all else. As an independent labelling expert, RAL provides reliable and neutral guidance on the awarding of environmental labels such as the Blue Angel and EU Ecolabel, offering transparent support for informed decision-making in the areas of environmental and consumer protection

RAL ENVIRONMENT as a certification body

RAL gGmbH accepts individual applications and verifies that products or services comply with strict environmental criteria. If all requirements are met, label use agreements can be concluded with the applicant. RAL ENVIRONMENT also organises and moderates expert hearings to support the Federal Environment Agency in developing and revising new environmental labels as an independent body.

The environmental labels Blue Angel and EU Ecolabel

If you want to protect the environment, you can reliably identify products and services that are more environmentally friendly by looking for the Blue Angel or EU Ecolabel. Both labels are awarded by RAL. These labels certify that products and services are more environmentally friendly than other products and services in the same category. They are awarded following a rigorous certification process, during which specific environmental criteria are thoroughly tested.

Blue Angel

As the world's first and Germany's best-known environmental label, the Blue Angel sets the standard. Currently, over 40,000 products and services from around 1,600 licensees in Germany and abroad carry the Blue Angel label.
