25 years of RAL DESIGN SYSTEM - innovation and reliability. Worldwide

The RAL DESIGN SYSTEM is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. With its 1,625 systematically ordered, colorimetrically defined color shades, the system is considered a perfect instrument for individual color designs for anyone who deals professionally with the topics of colour and surface design. Since its launch in 1993, the colour system has met the high demands placed on creative color designs that demand a multitude of colour nuances. Therefore, the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM is an ideal work and design tool especially for colour designers, architects, designers and painters.

The basis of the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM is the internationally used CIELab colour space since 1976. In this, the shades of the system are arranged evenly spaced to ensure complete and uniform coverage of the entire colour space. The RAL colours are arranged according to the criteria of hue, brightness and saturation. The positions of the individual colour tones in the colour space are defined by the seven-digit colour number. The logical arrangement according to the criteria shade (Hue = H), brightness (Lightness = L) and chroma (Chroma = C) makes the system quickly and easily comprehensible and applicable.

In order to meet the different requirements of the most important target groups and application areas, RAL COLOURS has developed new and innovative products over the last few years. So there is the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM today in the form of colour fans (D2), boxes (D8 & D6) and a colour atlas (D4).

The RAL D2 Colour Fan, the RAL Boxes D8 and D6 and the RAL D4 Colour Atlas show all 1,625 colours of the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM, tailored to the specific requirements of specific target groups and most diverse applications. For example, the D2 colour fan has been developed to quickly locate a color as well as to colour match a wide range of objects, whereas the development of modern colour design concepts is quick and easy with the D8 or D6 Box. The range of the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM is rounded off by the possibility of purchasing each of the 1,625 colour shades as an A4 or A6 single sheet. On request also measured colorimetrically to ensure the highest standards of colour precision.

Just in time for the jubilee year, RAL starts its exclusive five-year cooperation with the awning manufacturer markilux from Emsdetten. From 2018 on, end customers will be able to receive their awnings in their desired colour of 1,625 RAL colours. "colour on demand" - fabric colour on request - offers on the website www.farbfinder.com various online tools to choose the right colour out of the 1,625 colours of the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM.

In addition, the successor to the success book "Colours of Health" will be published in early summer. The design book "Colours for Mind, Body and Soul" which has been created in cooperation with the renowned colour researcher and colour designer Prof. Axel Venn. It is based entirely on the systematics of the RAL DESIGN SYSTEM and thus offers numerous suggestions and tips for working with a colour design system used worldwide and in many industries.
